How to Turn On Your PC Remotely from Anywhere in the World

i find myself using my main pc a lot through remote desktop / parsec and had been looking for a quick way to turn on my pc remotely from anywhere in the world.

i tried setting up a vpn that could allow me to send a wake-on-lan packet locally but that isnt very straight forward and involved having access to the scripts and vpn.

the ideal scenario for me would be the following

• not involve any vpn
• not need any terminal commands / scripts
• work from anywhere without opening any ports

the best solution i have found to achieve that is using a cloud based home assistant setup.

here's how to set it up.

first step is to setup WOL on your pc.

then edit your configuration.yaml file in home assistant to add the following

then create a button with the following config

this gives you a button that can be used to turn your pc on from anywhere in the world.
